Where did my summer go?

Where did my summer go?
It's gone somewhere I do not know.
For what reason I cannot glean.
For some purpose left unseen. 
I took my heart from out my chest
And placed it in your hand to rest.
Into your ears poured my darkest tales
Of past loves lost and epic fails.
All seemed well until the day
Your birthday loomed and you went away
Camping trip, away with your mother
No sign in the photos of you with another.
Yet since your return I've seen you twice,
What'd I do? An explanation would be nice.
