As Though We Never Said Goodbye
The sun had not yet set,
And the moon of day
Had been swept away:
A day death cannot forget.
You said I was merely a friend,
All things, they say, must have an end.
And though I still hope for you,
I fear what they say has come true.
I must go on, into the sky
Where angels cry.
But we will meet again,
As though death had never been—
As though we never said, “Goodbye.”
I hope you will not cry
When you leave me at the grave…
You know, my love, that I
Want you to be brave.
As though we never said “Goodbye.”
And though time has past
Since I kissed you last
I will not forget you
Because there is no way to.
Where angels cry
When lovers die,
Will we ever meet again,
As though death had never been,
As though we never said “Goodbye?”
