Haircut

Dear L,

A gem for sure. Both the poem and the poet found underneath the shorn locks. I find myself betwixt and between feelings of going au naturale and maintaining my “natural” color. Clawing to the last vestiges of youth I wonder how I’ll feel in another ten years. I very much appreciate the discovery of self in a new haircut and seeing wisdom manifest itself in our bodies. Wonderful write. H🌷

Society applies so much pressure to women to stay looking young, it’s as if what we look like for a brief time in our 20’s is the only valid way to exist.  I started going gray when I was 18, so the battle for me has been a long and tiresome one lol.  If I had known it would feel so absolutely liberating, I’d have done it a long time ago!

Bravissima, Luna❣ Using a haircut as a metaphor for transition is beautiful. Like a snake sheds its skin. This passage makes me happy because I feel the same way,
"greeting the shock of
salt and pepper
with a smile"
I have earned those spices and wear them like a badge of honor.
