Will You Remember My Sigh?

In ending I will end, and that is all.

When the sharp pains of death pierce between my shoulders
or dizziness overtakes me,
all of life’s orgasms will kindly consume me
and place my face against Mother Earth.

Or, might I balance on the edge, fully cognizant and alone?

Will I hover, clinging to life’s richest thoughts
and youthful lusts while still holding the silver coin,
knowing it must pass from my hands?

When all that is me, or ever was me, vanishes,
will you still remember my sigh?
Will you still desire my lips or the stroke of my hand?
Will you kneel at this stone remembering how I
caressed you within my moist center?

All of this which we now freely give and receive will end.
On this cold ground over my future resting place
let my palms press around your firming heat.
Let my lips taste you and say a final goodbye.

Please lust after me in my absence?

Author's Note
A young woman comes to grips with death on her own terms. This poem resulted from thinking about the poem, Forever Love, that I wrote about a college love affair. https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poems/378689-forever-love/
