Understandings
I don't understand love or people
Perhaps not even myself
I understand distance and alone
And stubborn
The simple beauty of nature
Of farms and fields and things that grow
The flight of the hawk and the lark
The butterfly and the crow
I understand rolling hills and trails
Through forests criss crossed by streams
And mountain views at the trails end
Sunrise and sunset through the pines
Where the morning mists rise when its cool
The sweet scent of honey suckle
And wild flowers 'long the fence line
All far from people and crowds
And yet
I long to be in love with you
The old scars begin to fade
And all that is lost in me
Unnoticed or forgiven
By the touch of your hand
So small within my own
If only our worlds weren't light years apart
I live beyond street lights and night lights
And you beyond the forests and the fields
Yet your body speaks a beauty
My eyes have never known
And feelings stir; is it just chance
That we meet so, mere coincidence
Or is it fate that I begin to fall
Perhaps not even myself
I understand distance and alone
And stubborn
The simple beauty of nature
Of farms and fields and things that grow
The flight of the hawk and the lark
The butterfly and the crow
I understand rolling hills and trails
Through forests criss crossed by streams
And mountain views at the trails end
Sunrise and sunset through the pines
Where the morning mists rise when its cool
The sweet scent of honey suckle
And wild flowers 'long the fence line
All far from people and crowds
And yet
I long to be in love with you
The old scars begin to fade
And all that is lost in me
Unnoticed or forgiven
By the touch of your hand
So small within my own
If only our worlds weren't light years apart
I live beyond street lights and night lights
And you beyond the forests and the fields
Yet your body speaks a beauty
My eyes have never known
And feelings stir; is it just chance
That we meet so, mere coincidence
Or is it fate that I begin to fall
