The Beasts Burden

It starts with a dull hum in the distance.

Louder and louder again! Roaring now. The great beasts approach.
Slow. Lumbering they are. Their immense size and power leave no room for being quiet.

Despite their bulk, they maneuver almost effortlessly in the tightest of spaces.

They spread their great legs to gain a firmer stance while men fuss around them like tiny ants.

Their powerful arms extend skyward. Further and further aloft.

So high, one might fear them breaching the floor of heaven.

The beasts' burden lies before them now. They seize their enterprise with the strength of countless men and in an explosion of effort they bear the fullness of their lot and slowly advance it upward.

The men anxiously await the gift from the massive exertion of these powerful beasts.

Skillfully, they avoid obstacles. The slightest entanglement with even the smallest impediment would bring certain disaster and death.

As precise as a surgeon, the beasts present the load to the men and they work around quickly to relieve them of their haul.

Then, sweet reprieve.

The beasts great arms strain no more against the heavy toil.

They lower their arms from the heavens.

They emit the same guttural growls as they crawl out of the nooks and crannies wherein they must do their work.
Off into the setting sun they lumber back to their resting place to await the day again when man should need the might of these monsters to help build their world.
