A Fathers Promise

Come sit with me a while.
Tell me about yourself.

There was a time not too long ago when I knew more about you than you knew about yourself.
These days I barely know either of us.

Tell me a story in the way you do.

Youthful, hyperactive ramblings of excitement.
You talk so fast you can’t even keep up with yourself and we laugh together as we try and figure out what you were just talking about.

Show me your hobbies.

What do you like to do? Childish knowledge of every shiny little trinket you own pours out of you with boundless enthusiasm.

I make wishes constantly through the days that I could be there for all the other discoveries and experiences that cause the child like fervor that I miss seeing in you every day.

But here I am.

And there you are.

So close in my heart but far from my arms.

I miss you.

Don’t worry Son, Daddy always comes home.

If only for you.
If only for a little while.

I swear to you today, Daddy will always come home for you.
