MAIDENHAIR FERN

She came to me
Borne of love
A piece of which
To carry and care for

And when the love broke
I wanted to break her
I threw her away
An attempt to forget

But this is the thing
About evolving hearts
Shadings of green
Naivete’s haste

A plant can transform
Sunlight into sugar
Sweetness from a burn
And you found a way

To do this with our love
Old bitterness spared
Like a maidenhair fern
You give me clean air
