Between Love and Apathy
you came as you were
then left as you are,
between here nor there
both nearby and far
the in’s and the out’s
of just and unfair,
between you and I
both covered and bare
time and last chances
from cage-locked to flown,
between truth and lies
both stunted and grown
held and rejected
released while yet bound,
between lack and want
both misplaced and found
I came as I was
I’m here as I am
between starved and fed
both lion and lamb

It’s really hard to maintain a good sense of rhythm in a rhyme poem, but here it feels really effortless. It gives the poem this beautiful lyrical quality that is so prevalent in rhyming pieces such as this.
The last stanza is my personal favourite because it holds no apologies. It simply is. And that’s an awesome thing.

The rhythm here brings the meaning into focus like a magnifying glass that leaves the mental image crystal clear. That ending was brilliant.

This has all the components of a classical, stylish and epic poem. Perfect rhythm, flow and rhyme. I'm only sorry I didn't get to it sooner.
