SOUNDS OF THE FIRST GOOD FRIDAY
Humanity held not its breath
when Jesus was sent to His death.
Many were crying to the sky
that Pilate ought to "CRUCIFY!"
Others called "You save yourself!"
as His feet hung to the cross shelf.
I imagine a noisy day
on morning of first 'Good Friday'
as, serenaded by a crowd
In jeers, at his forced walk, quite loud
bar some women , more sensitive,
who wept for Him, not long to live.
Then finally, his great death cry -
"It is finished!" ("Tetalestai!") -
emanating like explosion,
making the old centurion
say this was God's son, to be sure,
In a humbled and graven awe
as roundabout a great earthquake
opened old tombs, made their dead wake
while in the Temple curtains tore
from top down unto the tiled floor.
