Cautionary Tale
This is a beautiful film
You'll understand when you are older
This endless sequence of shadows and laughter
You can only relate in dreams
Can only feel with prayer
This is a consoling lullaby
You'll understand when you are older
Every word in your good girl conscience
Quite absurd--
The notion we are more than paper dolls
Spreading wildly across this dying planet
Recycling, dieting, rioting ideals of
Granite and stone--the hearts on loan
The ivory towers
Quite absurd
This is a lonely world
You'll understand when you are older
No one knows you like your mother
No one frets and tends forever
To her wildflower baby's bower
You'll be her little girl forever
This is a lonely world.

This was a poem for a neice I thought was about to go the wrong way. She didn't, and after I wrote it I felt it was too coercive and guilting feeling, but I still like the poem.

I loved the line...
"The notion we are more than paper dolls" and basically that entire stanza, poem as a whole.. lol....it's such a powerful statement and lesson that all our children boys and girls need teaching, imo.

"Granite and stone--the hearts on loan/the ivory towers/Quite absurd" ... this is poetic gold ... love the internal rhyme of the first line ... then the crispness of the next two ... with the boldness of the third ... it hits the reader/listener like a hammer ... but not in a preachy way ... I did not think it was depressing ... rather I felt it was providing truthful unvarnished guidance ... sometimes I feel like we pump kids up with sunshine ... then send them out into the rain ... unprepared ...

I guess for me it wouldn't be, if someone wrote it for me...I think, as some philosopher said, Thebeginning if wisdom is to realize how little you know. "Pump kids up with sunshine and then send them out into the rain" damn, there's a GREAT line right there! Absolutely right on the money, that's what we do!! 💛🧠🤯
