Christ Spent Only 2 Nights In The Tomb
Christ died on Friday and rose on Sunday,
= only 2 nights in the tomb.
But He said, "Son of Man will be in heart of earth for 3 days & 3 nights"(Matthew 12.40).
So several people claim He must have been crucified Wednesday or Thursday -
so He could spend another night in the tomb.
But the solution to the problem is to realize Christ didn't say "3 nights in the tomb."
He used the phrase "heart of the earth" FOR A REASON !!
It allows us to look to a place (OTHER than the tomb) that fits the words, "heart of the earth."
This isn't just speculation.
For Thursday night He was kept in the basement of the high priest's house (Luke 22.54)
- who would be serving as a judge for the trial the next day.
It was only natural for Christ to be kept in a "holding cell."
My point is that that dungeon was below the surface of the ground and thus qualifies as "heart of the earth."
So we add Thursday night to Friday night and Saturday night to arrive at 3 nights!
What do you think?!
