Completing the Circle
Along the ridge, we followed the trail
That led through confederate earthworks
Deep into forest quiet
Descended the hill
To cross the pathless creek
Where rushes were thick
To be parted to make way
For intrepid lovers
Until we follow the rise
On our pilgrimage
To the museum water fountain
Where wife excitedly imparts our adventure
To smiling young ranger
Who admonishes not to go off-trail again
But that we had a good time and that is good
Wife brushes dirt off her pants
The loam of yesteryear
Along the ridge, we followed the trail
That led through confederate earthworks
Deep into forest quiet
Descended the hill
To cross the pathless creek
Where rushes were thick
To be parted to make way
For intrepid lovers
Until we follow the rise
On our pilgrimage
To the museum water fountain
Where wife excitedly imparts our adventure
To smiling young ranger
Who admonishes not to go off-trail again
But that we had a good time and that is good
Wife brushes dirt off her pants
The loam of yesteryear
