MOURNING IN AMERICA
one wonders who will pay for the crimes of those
who stole her dignity
and mocked her prowess
and denigrated and diminished her
and twisted her truth
and raped and broke her
and left her bleeding in the marble halls of congress
(five dead, one hundred forty injured)
who, fearful and quaking
and blinded by their lust for power,
sold their souls
and embraced the monster
and acquitted him
and put him on the pedestal
and genuflected
and beat their breasts
and called themselves righteous for it
and thus sealed her fate
so that even if she survives
she is declined and humbled
and not, by any means, "great again"
who stole her dignity
and mocked her prowess
and denigrated and diminished her
and twisted her truth
and raped and broke her
and left her bleeding in the marble halls of congress
(five dead, one hundred forty injured)
who, fearful and quaking
and blinded by their lust for power,
sold their souls
and embraced the monster
and acquitted him
and put him on the pedestal
and genuflected
and beat their breasts
and called themselves righteous for it
and thus sealed her fate
so that even if she survives
she is declined and humbled
and not, by any means, "great again"
