Viceroy butterfly  (daVid)

For my pretence the grandiose
my wings to spread
in hues to match the undergrowth
in autumn shades

For the less well informed
mistaken for an admiral
a lepidoptera shrunk or just deformed
summers short days do fly

When in the earth as chrysalis curled
just like a teenager, lied in bed
escape the cold and winters snows
awaiting spring, transformed in that advent

The junk food of a cow pat
my elegance survived intact
a willow leaf where raindrops sat
my perch; your glance not pass me by

Wings of orange marked with black
the briefest dance
enchantment all of my life so span
the promenade its wish and song

Harlequin of the senses
