Apron strings
she looked out of the window
and wondered at the shadows
how the evening had crept in
the day was chores galore
she thought adjusting her apron
she cut short her dreaming
her wedding had been good
her birth of children
were just fine
but to know his fists
when he was angry
was too painful to ignore
