The Shortest Distance
"The shortest distance between two points is through the mud."
~Annalee Wombles
Safe from the rain, under the canopy
Mom looked at the car, then she looked at me
A sudden downpour in the middle of the park, parking lot in a flood
Mother tells me, "Shortest distance between two points is through the mud"
Sometimes, to get to where you are going to
There's going to be obstacles, gotta push through
She told me following your dreams is never easy, always things in your way
Gotta see how bad you want it, how quickly you'll throw them away
My mother was smart, and witty
Country girl making her way in the big city
I'll never forget that lesson, taught on a rainy day
Sometimes you've just got to push through... it's the only way
