Who cares?

In this age of ''who cares''
What is the significance
Or the deep meaning  
Of the word or term
Excommunication to you?
Would you care if you were
Excommunicated
And what ''doing'' of yours
Could lead to such chastisement.
Attacking the Church...
Openly on what basis, what sin?
Otherwise how does  the Church know
Of your very existence?
It would have to be something as
As outrageous as the group of women
Who, years ago went out to sea  
Out of territorial limits,
Figuring they were untouchable
And named themselves cardinals
Or whatever.
So  they were excommunicated
Right away.
I wonder if they turned Protestants
