Double-Masked Women / an Op-Ed (?)
I don't get it. Never have.
Seems
to be an all-time high for Painted Ladies on TV.
I haven't watched TV much for many decades,
but now that i'm a Shut-In, i feel compelled to
watch news shows to keep vaguely "up" on
what;s happening "out there"
Each time I watch, I just get fucking fixated on
these newsladies faces and & the Painted image they project.
It's just saddening to see this be the societal goal of appearances.
The "beautiful" girls/ladies that aye hung'out with when i was "a bit" younger,
never wore any make-up. No Lipstick. No obcessively manipulated (most astonishing)
eyebrows , mascara, eyelashes. And this fingernail/toenail fixation is just boggling.
And, of course, rarely ever were seen in any "fancy"-("look-at-Me!"), clothing.
And Lingerie, jeez damn that phony ass stuff. My girls rarely ever wore bras; & were disinterested in looking more "tittie'ful".
In 11years with my first wife (god rest her soul), she never put on any obvious
make-up, never painted her fingers or toes, nor did anything with her eyes or anything
else. Always naturally plain straight hair. She was always quite Beautiful to me.
Yeah, okay. Laugh at the "Old Hippie" (christ, I hate that label all the way back to '67). It's been done before. Always seems a bit demeaningly disrespectful, but i suppose that's what "younger generations" are for.
Everytime eye watch TV, I can't help but wonder what they're "covering up"
that they need to be so ashamed and self-conscious of. Now, in the age of obligatory masking, most women be double-masked (anonymous!).
Such a necessary shame.
It seems men are being "encouraged" to blow lottsa dollars on cosmetics as well. Tis all right with me. Maybe I should try it, but being a cardiac cripple shut-in, i rarely have occasion to go out looking like "any'thing".
So here iyam. Old fart Hippie at the last stage of My Trip. I don't know what to "make" of what the state of our world is, but it sure doesn't look "good". Both sad and glad (ah, The Paradoxymoron!) at not being able to be around to see "it" all plays out. Can't even imagine the human stupidity my sweet grand'daughter will have to endure in her "future".

But the question is, would you change ANYTHING ( particularly the title * hippie * )?
I came in on the back-end of that title ( born in 59 ). I was too young to do anything but watch from the window, but at least I had the music! By the time I was allowed out of my box, it was the 70's, but hey! That was okay because the music fucking rocked ( before disco hit the scene ). And the * feel good spirits * ( lets just call them ) were still remnants of the 60's. Today's shit will kill you via addiction with one shot!
I envy ya for getting to experience a historical time in your life! I really can't say that I have outside of this year - but that will be NOTHING to brag about in the future.
People ask me all the time how I have such good skin. My answer? No makeup.

Just a word, many of which have taken on ignorant warped "meanings" as regards pop culture of whatever era. Just the way it goes. I'm certainly not as concerned about "hippie" as i may have projected to be. Gotta have a little theatricality in poems, y'know?
Even if it's "at my own eXpense" on a humor level.
Rite On.& 'appy 'olidays, dear.

I was pretty reserved myself; had my own circle I trusted and not many more. I didn't understand empathy then, nor why crowds drained me so much. Or why I would need periodic solitude, even away from my own children.
I wish I had understood it back then; I could've protected myself more, and probably enjoyed more things, concerts, etc. I still attended concerts, just not as many as I would've liked to.
I may not have been super interactive, but it was still a historic time, the 70's had great music, both new and the spillage of the 60's.

Actually, in my fascination with jazz & poetry. I often wished i was of the pre-hippy culture, when jazz and poetry were at the fore. The poets and musicians of the time seemed to have been more 'accessible' in small venues. So it goes. All water way-far under the bridge............I guess that all means "beatnik" which was directly coined by the overground press as a derogatory jab at Kerouac, Ginsberg, and the folks in that scene. "Hippie" was a word that came out of beatnik culture, but it was 7-8 years (1964'65) before the mass media spread it into the commercial culture, to which the counter culture folk in SF had a "Death of Hippie" mock funeral in spring of '67. Now that was a "historic event" on the levels of the Monterrey and Woodstock Festivals to come, so far as I'm concerned. Right On! History Lesson. Maybe I should include it in my Great Communications of dkzk series. Jeez, i gotta lay down. Too much excitement here

There is a lot of truth here, maybe this is where men have pushed them. Maybe in their mind we have fenced them into a competition of both beauty and body. We don't know just guessing, it could be an attempt to cover up scars both visible and invisible. We don't know it's kinda like the thong thing, once a thong or g-string was a rarity. But now visit Walmart and there is a lady taking up half the aisle bent over with a thong exposed. The beauty in somethings is in not seeing it every freaking day and every freaking where. We like a lady fresh out of the shower, fresh out of the ocean, swimming in a pool or lake, mmmmmm down beast. Tight work dude

You can express yourself any way you wish. If it's a purposeful mask, artfully done, fine. But those women on tv who are setting standards for women's beauty, just strike me so sadly. And now, there's a fair amount of women in tv 'production" who are requiring this "look", just like their male predecessors, who they also had to fuck in order to get the job. American popular "entertainment" is a horridly vicious "institution". Especially as regards women. I just hope women keep stepping up and sounding off about this sick "tradition" of men running the goddamn

As I said, artsy, creative, or theatrical make-up is great.
The thousands of years of patriarchal dominance has fucked up this world to an insane "normal"..... time to start shifting to a matriarchy, and we do have a start in that direction. Just hope our macho men don't nuke civilization beyond recognition before we get rid of 'em.
