A Graveyard of Poems
I have a graveyard of poems
Unfinished pieces not quite dead
I can hear their undertones
Reeling somewhere in my head
They have different sets of rhymes
Puns and wordplays half written
Lost but not forgotten lines
Thoughts that once had me smitten
Suddenly they have returned
Like a flood you cannot halt
A desire that once burned
Resurrected from the vault
All writing remains the property of the author. Don't use it for any purpose without their permission.

Dear W,
Me too! Except if I don’t write down my unfinished gems they get completely forgotten, without a single hope of ever flooding back. I really enjoyed the rhyming of this poem. The meter you set up is gentle and allows the reader a flow that doesn’t need to be reread in order to make the syllables work. I so envy that ability. Lovely write. H🌷

Thanks Honoria. I keep a small notepad (yes, paper!) and sometimes on my phone, but most a word document for those in progress. Some come alive, and some just linger around for a long time.
I tried to stay within the syllable count on this one, keeping it simple and not too wordy.

I am in the same camp as Honoria. I have sparks of ideas every day, but half the time I am not in a position to write it down, and then it's gone. I am a sucker for a good rhymer, and this is a good one. It flows perfectly.

Thanks Eerie, a lot of times having the voice recording features on the smartphone works too. Many times I found myself repeating things out loud (in the car of course whenever I'd be stuck in traffic) so the line wouldn't get away from me. I tried to stick with the syllable count on this one, keeping it short and to the point.

Hahahahaha! We were definitely on the same wave-length last night! I feel like the flood gates have opened but they're all jammed in the delta trying to get out at once! LOL! This is great, Wally!

Right!? I'm catching up with my readings and comments and I saw your tanka and I was like, hey, the universe is feeding us, but you're right, what to pick first?
Thanks for adding to your RL. May the coming days have great verses streaming to the surface.

I try to catch snippets, in pieces of paperwork of voice recordings on my phone. I have rediscovered older pieces from ten or fifteen years ago, so I keep them in a different file just in case, but some have no way of coming back.

Oh boy, do I spend so much time in this graveyard, it is cold and sometimes filled with anxiety and other times I suppose a little peaceful like I find most graveyards. The ghosts of my unfinished writing do haunt and torture me though because I guess they want to go into the light. On the bright side who would keep me company in the graveyard of dead poems if I let them all go. But still there are way more dead ones than I would have the courage to post. :p

Kristina, thanks for stopping by and adding to your RL. It’s wonderful to know that I’m not the only who muses over unfinished pieces feeling a little incomplete pondering on whether to give life to some verses or just letting them go. After a while we recognize there’s no use and perhaps some of the words will transform into an altogether different piece.
