the sadness inside me sang
quietly in hushed tones

little broken notes full of feeling
so sorrowful I ache with her

off-key with the world I walk out of step
an internal melody plays inside me

drums of thunder pound in my chest
my anger flares
indignation at the state of things

humanity turns a blind eye

beauty is in the least likely places if you're looking
there is beauty in pain
so I embrace sadness
she reflects the truth of me

there is a gentle song playing
a song of understanding
let the melody play on
