Dollarama

I circled the dollar store several times
Like I usually do,
And I picked out things I get everytime.
Half a gallon of sweet tea, a small box of nails,
Some batteries, Haribo berries,
Bubble mailers and
Permanent markers.
I always take a little too much and by the end of it,
I was carrying a precarious amount of loose goods in my arms,
The foaming facial acne scrub I saw was a new one--
This time it used pecan shell powder instead of walnut,
And I put it on the pile, wondering if it would perform any different than the previous one.
I go past the snacks and pull out a small package of strawberry puff pastries.
They are all out of floral wire. They have been for weeks.
I need to make a necklace for my friend.
She'll have to wait a little longer.
I stop by the home cleaning products aisle to see
If they have my favorite dish gloves.
They don't.
They're a classy red and white polka dot pattern and,
Feel oddly good on my hands when I clean the pots.
I look over, and they've changed the color of the broomsticks:
A black, shiny aluminum, and feel a little firmer in the hand
Than the frail looking white ones they had in stock earlier.
I realize these are not the only firm sticks they have to offer.
I look down, and there lies on the bottom rack,
Messily splayed in a pile,
Are these 2.5 foot long plungers,
Firm wooden handles and reddish brown plunger heads.
I pick one up, its head teetering on a poorly secured neck,
And like all the other things in the store,
It is made in China.
I think to myself,
Do people actually buy the plungers?
Are there customers that place it in their hands, and select it as an item to buy?
Do they look at the pale yellowish oak (I think it's oak)
And say,
My,
What a fine stick and head. I will add it to my collection.
And for the price of 1$,
Are there customers that
Would not buy the plunger?
Do they exist?
I am one of them, having never bought one,
But next time I am there,
I will buy one. I will.
I will become the customer that buys the plunger.
