The Lovestruck Troubadour

He stood infront of his beloved
his green eyes fixed upon her lovely face
She was as pretty as can be
He told her she looked
stunning in her lovely dress
her hair all done up in braids

And so he kissed his darling's
willing lips then he caressed
her face with both hands
She smiled at him again
and made his lovesick heart
do cartwheels in his chest

He slipped one hand into
the pocket of his leather vest
He brought out a ring  he
worked hard to acquire
He'd saved all his small wages
in a little box he'd made from clay

He held the tiny  ring up
to her face and gazed deep
into her precious eyes and said,
"I'm just a lonelyTroubadour
I've nothing much to offer you
Still my heart beats for you alone,"

He took up one of her hands
and slipped it on her ring finger
He said, "I will love you always and
It would honor me to take you as my wife
He watched the tears well up in her eyes
He saw them start to fall down her cheeks

She said, "It breaks my heart in two
but  it would be impossible
and there's nothing we can go
It hurts me so to give back your ring
but you're just a lowly Troubadour
and  I'm a princess,  the daughter of the king ."
