Demi is a Warrior
You say you are a warrior and got thicker skin
While some say you may be done and finished
Forever, but then you have risen from the ashes,
Reappearing from the smoke like a skyscraper.
After so many burns, car collisions and crashes
You show strength. You are far from being paper
Or razor thin when you show that a strong storm
Can never knock you down. Let us all normalize
Bruises and scars because they tell us a story not
Because they show your weaknesses. You keep
Using your voice to speak up as you always fought
Your way in to see the light and never fell asleep
At the wheel. Your eyes were always watching
The horizon, hoping for some of the splotching
To disappear and waiting for a miracle to save
You from dying because you were on your last
Breath, but not ready to put dirt over your grave
Yet. I always prayed for your dusty and overcast
Skies to vanish completely so courage and hope
Can shine through the darkness as you still grope
With your innermost demons. They only observe
As you bleed from the inside out. They only see
You struggle to find yourself among the curves
And rocks. They do not care if you get lost at sea
Or use lyrics to point out injustice across the world.
To them you should have stayed quiet and curled
Up like a flag we kneel to. We march in the streets
So our voices are heard among the tears and rain.
Haven’t we all suffered enough? When one eats
In comfort another is not hungry for personal gain,
But for food, shelter and justice. In a world where
Many people simply hate you for who you share
Your love with or how you pray or for the color
Of your skin, continue to be the beacon of change
And shining love you wish to see. Be a little taller
In the way you walk. Be the broad mountain range
No one, but the fearful people are afraid to climb.
Continue to be louder than the quiet windchime
That is never heard except when the wind blows
Through the quiet sky. It is okay to still pray for
All your enemies as your soul once again grows
Strong. What waits on the other side of the door
For you and everyone else that has the valor and
Courage is prosperity. Your soft body and hands
Hold more determination that what you realize.
Your reason to live your life outweighs the bad.
Someday someone else will hold up the skies
With their determination. You are simply mad
Because the world decided to give you its aches,
But you still have the power to put on the brakes
When the world is moving too fast. You still have
The ability to be who you are in a world full of
All the pretenders. You walk down the avenue
With a heart made of gold and full with love.
