The Governess

“I dream with my hands clasped behind my back.”
—Charles

soft skin meets
rough leather
meets shocked skin
snapped awake
sparks burst their way
into closed eyes
behind masked faces -
connecting, igniting
soaring, reaching;
a very fine greeting
how do you do?

sting, soothe, pet, croon

turned up corners
on sly mouths
feasting at shy mounds;
reminding them both
it’s just a game
the winner yet decided
both aware
there will be no loser
