Things Aren't As They Seem

My pain and misery fall from the sky.
I try to ignore it, but it still gets by.
Surrounded with memories of what could have been,
The hatred screams from under my skin.
Pulsing through my veins is the anger I feel,
Wounds break open as soon as they seal.
My smile hides my tears,
My laugh hides my screams.
It's been this way for years,
Things are not as they seem.
On the outside I appear happy,
Without a care in the world.
Sadly - many things go untold.
Nobody really knows me,
They only know my cover.
But I wish I could let it free,
Let them see what's under.
Instead, I practice my smile in the mirror.
Next, I make my laugh sound clearer.
What's wrong?
You need help?
Is all they ask -
So I've decided ...
To live behind a mask.
