THE DYING LION

Once a king on green and white In the jungle's West
When once you roar the Jackals quake as far as East
Who would dare when you sleep to cross your den?
The world eagle of the west would beg now and then

At age seven the hyenas rose to tear the den into two
Almost all you killed them off, assuming: that will do
To western coast with your pride, wolves were tamed
Over the world your cubs excel, you can't be shamed

But now your roar goes no farther than your den
With much blood, e'en of your cubs, you've got a wen
Much festering between your eyes you are doomed
Even the blackest flag in your den seem boomed

The drought you caused in your den as hot as sun
The hyena arise again in the "land of the rising sun"
Even the South's eagle kills your cubs without a fear
Who would save the African lion from what I fear!
