Scintilla of Chocolate and Wine
nothing remains
but the faintest scintilla
of bitter dark chocolate
mingling scandalously
with sweet mandarin wine
~bittersweet, like the irony~
lingering mockingly
upon her tongue
long after the lights
were dimmed
and the table cleared
of offerings untouched,
left unappealing
by his sudden goodbye
~her mouth still full of unsaid words~
desperately clinging fingers
grip her glass too tightly,
a fixed point of focus
in the glorious wreckage
of a life derailed
by candlelight
but the faintest scintilla
of bitter dark chocolate
mingling scandalously
with sweet mandarin wine
~bittersweet, like the irony~
lingering mockingly
upon her tongue
long after the lights
were dimmed
and the table cleared
of offerings untouched,
left unappealing
by his sudden goodbye
~her mouth still full of unsaid words~
desperately clinging fingers
grip her glass too tightly,
a fixed point of focus
in the glorious wreckage
of a life derailed
by candlelight

Oh, Luna... I could feel a great aching in my heart while reading this :(
A great emotional outpour, like a lightning strike to the heart.
You brought me deep into this painful moment, right there beside you... 💔
Your writing is hauntingly impeccable...

The word scintilla has always given me this image of lingering smoke, like it’s source is gone, but only just. I’d hoped to capture the emotion of that image here with this snapshot of a story. I’m glad it resonated with you. Thank you as always for your kind words, NewB 💜

It's a very impactful poem, Luna. The imagery conjurs vividly in the mind. Truly enjoyed this despite the associated pain because it's excellent poetry.

a fixed point of focus
in the glorious wreckage
Yes! ... perfectly captures a desperation to hold on. How much we endure, willingly.. and hold on tightly to the torture. Sexy piece Luna..

Beautifully vulnerable, lush detail, sweetly melancholy flow, excellent meter, evocative and touching. I hear you. I feel you.

Dear L,
This poem was a wave of oceanic truth in realizing how much the smallest things will recall a love long gone. How is it the tiniest of things can create the largest of pain/loss. Wonderful write! H🌷
