of careless love

“If you haven’t figured it out yet, an absolutely certain way to lose something as
quickly as possible is to forget the privilege you have to possess it in the first place.”
― Craig D. Lounsbrough

of a dusky morning,
her head in curlers
weeps
its dew
upon her wedding ring.
of her disappointing,
his verbal hurdlers
steep
their brew

where once he used to sing.

blind, she left her mother
to sate the romance
deep
and new
he promised her to bring.
how it hurt her father,
who worried, perchance
cheap
adieu

should hide a deadly sting!

promises to foolish
hunger
dish up dirt,
reap
their due.
the innocence that drinks
the all-enticing wish
knows but how to flirt;
sweep
the view

before it stops and thinks.

lessons for the learning,
guidance from the wise.
leap
the true
and willing heart yearning,
penitent returning,
for sweet compromise.
keep
the spew
of careless love off-wing.
