Misery My Friend

I have this companion, who never leaves my side,
A companion who kindly shares and has nothing to hide,
I have a darkened soulmate that will be here to the end
I call this shady character, misery my friend.

Misery knocked on my door one day,
I invited her into my home,
And she’s been here ever since,
She won’t leave me alone,

I’ve begged and pleaded for her to go,
To finally take her leave,
Yet she just laughs and giggles and grins,
What a wicked web she weaves,

Now I’m to blame for asking her to come into my life,
For misery became my bride and I made her my wife,
So misery sleeps next to me and next to her I sleep,
And although my lips might curl and smile,
Its deep inside I weep,

So misery my friend, I guess it’s me and you,
To live this life of convenience, to see this life well through,
But when I finally close my eyes and finally give up the ghost,
I know you will find another friend, another deserving host…
