And the Wind Told Me

Dusty lavender paints the sky.
Trees make their dark scores against the heavens.
My feet are cold and the deck is wet.

But the air is almost warm, with a slight breeze.
This Indian summer will be gone by morning.
The wind tells me so.

This friendly zephyr whispers to me.
Telling me to stop silly shivers,
Singing sweet nothings in my hair

"I can't stay with you." He says
As his soft palm floats over my shoulders.
I close my eyes and plead with the wind.

"Keep me sane though this hard winter.
When clouds steal the sun
And the green is held hostage under frost."

But nothing gold can stay,
And this black night is a treasure,
That glitters like the brightest star.

"I'm only here for tonight," My wind coos.
Glancing around me and curling around my fingers
"So sit with me a while, and I'll tell you my tales."

I sit down on the cold wet deck,
And smell the rain-dampened trees,
Feelingl the crunchy yellow blades under my toes.

And I listen to the wind,
As it sings me to sleep
And says it's goodbyes.
