pluck my strings again
       let my heart rejoice for you
           every fibre bent
                  to the sequence of your strum.
                      let your pizzicato thumb
                          help me circumvent
                                 strains my spirit would subdue
                                     or my mien constrain.

                                     ancient lullabies
                                 pungent airs for stringent days
                          sombre night-time modes
                      paint their thrills along my spine.
                  ostinato cypress wine
           when my pulse explodes
       hangs my evening polonaise
in its fluted skies.

                                     every worn-out string
                                 in his heyday once a prince
                          fumbles broken chords
                      deeply fretted on the bridge.
                  stripped of youthful dutch courage
           craving old rewards
       whose deft fingers shall convince
my deep soul to sing

of my spanish birth
       where the rosewood danced in time
           o’er the ebon rocks?
                  melodied by frenzied dreams
                      long i for the lucid streams
                          of my equinox.
                                 thrill me with your finger rhyme
                                     harmonise the earth!
