The Night Bill Died

The Night Bill Died-

The night Bill died
eyes wide and dried and petrified
he saw things that we couldn't see
like geometric lines
and the way life will pass you by
and ancient almond tree
we spoke of morphine
and budding artists
and the ways the west has lied
but when the night had gone by
the wine long dry
Bill's silence
it amplified...
it's a startling sound
or lack thereof
like a proclamation with no applause
and in Bill's absence
we sat with silence
just left to hem and haw.
