The Matriarch
Grandma was a savage,
And I mean that in the most respectful kind of way,
Back in her day she could do some damage,
If someone pissed her off she would go a little cray…
See the thing about the Silent Generation,
Is that they lived through wars and harsh times,
They pushed forward without any stagnation,
And my grandma certainly fit the storylines.
She had the roughest childhood and upbringing,
Adhering the advice of women who were wise,
And through those years she was really building,
A profound foundation embedded with family ties.
She taught each and everyone one her children,
The meaning of honesty and true respect,
She always gave tough love filled with wisdom,
How to be courteous and also be direct.
Then in later days she went through a drastic change,
With a growing family she became more of a worrier,
Because then when my grandma found her faith,
The tough demeanor gave way to a prayer warrior.
She’s the pillar of my family, resolute and steadfast,
When we think we have it rough she’ll tell us stories,
“You’re not first and you certainly won’t be the last”
She’ll start with parallel parables and allegories.
“When you’re headed there I’m already coming back”
She was young once and knew to play the part,
Through prayers a matriarch always has your back,
She’s a tough little lady but she’s got a big heart.
