resurrection
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever
believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” —John 11:25
the silence of the grave
hangs heavy on the ear
where once the gallant soul and brave
mock scandal made of fear
there, cold, my mother’s grave
frail bones nightmared inside
‘tis not for me some choice enclave
where hopes and dreams preside
the spirit and the grave
no match thus made in heav’n
for time cannot the soul enslave
whose freedom is life’s leav’n
the power of the grave
like chaff before the wind
shall tremble when the big shockwave
the bonds of death rescind
