The New York Times Is Racist

Newspapers are racist
Especially the New York Times
I submitted my poems for the last three years
Not a single one ever made it in

I figured I was ahead of my time
And, as always, ahead of the curve
But this shit is daunting
And poets don’t make what they use to

Why the fuck wouldn’t they publish my shit?
I know the answer to that horrible query
And I am sick
Literally vomiting
When I think about how horrible
The New York Times is

But they get away with it
Because we are told we need “news”
And what sort of news they shelling out?
World affairs
The latest from Trump
How do we know any of it is real?
How do we know he even exists?

The problem has always been
That folks don’t question nothing
They just assume because it’s in the New York Times
That it happened

Except I never got any of my poems in
And y’all read my shit
So which is it?
Cause if they interested in truth
Look no further

Naw, y’all got it twisted
They ain’t interested in truth
They interested in maintaining the status quo
Don’t disrupt the norm
Don’t go against the grain
And all them other expressions
That mean the same

See, the way I figure it
If it wasn’t that way- they’d be begging me
For my word craft
The New York Times by Jermaine
Has a nice ring to it

But they don’t want the truth
Not from a young brother
In the prime of his years

It’s all there, black and white
But the black lies on top of the white
The white is the foundation
Of the ink- which is black
They forget though
If there was no ink
They would just have some shitty ass recycled paper
And without me
That’s all they’ll ever be
