Let you down

I thought I'd make you proud,
Sorry if I let you down,
My intention weren't so.

I took the path less traveled,
Thought the morning star would guide me home
But all I was, just an angel with clipped wings
No way that I could teach you how to fly
All I did was to let you down.

I thought I'd find the biggest diamond in the rough,
the most beautiful flower in the dark.
I searched for a mountain in the sea
And a rocky place in the sky.
But all my attempts were futile somehow,
Sorry that I let you down.

I see I can never be what you've always wanted me to be,
If leaving me behind promises you a life that's better than me
then that's fine,

I'm sorry that I let you down
Sorry I wasted your time
I was too busy trying to stand out
that I couldn't notice you were the one I was leaving out.

A diamond in the rough,
A flower in the dark,
A mountain in a sea,
A rock in the sky,
Those things I searched for that I didn't notice that all along were always around,
You were the best thing that I had found
But what's light to the eyes of a blind?

I'm sorry to have let you down,
Sorry to have let you go
I'm sorry to have said goodbye.
