waiting for tomorrow

You dare big dreams that never come
and not for lack of dreaming
you just can't weave your fingers
into the threads tight enough to hold on
when letting go is so easy
at the end of your fingertips

You tell yourself tomorrow will be better
tomorrow will be closer than today
closer than yesterday
closer than five years, ten years
... fifteen
... you've lost count

The years disappear while you're counting
while you're waiting
while you're dreaming dreams only
in your head

And still you tell yourself tomorrow will be better
some far off tomorrow that'll never come
when all you do is dream
while letting your fingers slip from the threads
that could make all your dreams real
outside of your head
