Image for the poem the weight of water

the weight of water

Descending staircase
Of ocean swell
Over moist tilting stones,
Broken breakers/sea architrave
And banderols of sea weed.

Bible black pearl straddles
Foam fences, we dive for
Plastic relics & fish fillet knives
To slice the beady eyes, which
Have observed land
Thru’ aquatic lens,
Empire’d centuries.

Fountains burst up
To edge of Sirius,
Falling back to earth
With tears like Laika.
We need these
Liquefied eyelids:
Spray from fountain
Mouth of imagination.

*Pic. Trevi Fountain, Rome. If fortunate to visit and observe ritual of throwing ‘three coins’ in fountain – make sure it is your own currency. Allegedly, this is lucky!
