I was always instilled with the idea that growing up in America was the best
From birth to last year the idea has changed
How can someone be so full of pride for a country that's just as bad as the rest

We deny the rights of better lives to those in need like immigrants
How can we say we have the best country when those who come to us are turned away
The American Dream with a white picket fence is nothing more than campaign bullshit

The poor get poorer and the rich get richer
The mismanaged system lives on in our hearts as perfectly normal
Somehow in all of this fault people can still live as though nothing is wrong

There are fights every which way I turn and there seems to be no escape
Forces fighting for equality and liberty for all are posed as ridiculous and have uncivil requests
LGBTQ+ members are outlawed because the Bible says so and it's not God's Will

Maybe we just push aside our differences and try to provide a healthy economy for our futures
Maybe we focus on our actions more than others
Maybe we put aside politics and look for the best overall option for the world

Or maybe we let what's happening take us over and nothing gets done
Forever lost because we never made a change with our ways
