Words on Fire
In a sweet flambé
heated words
are searing
The pan sets
flakes in flight
instantly to light
a fire bright
In ash below
my tree of life
is growing
Warfare’s unspent
munitions at
my rooted feet
I spread my roots
a shield for what’s
beneath them
So men can tread
the earth
safely above these
and in my garden
food is growing
My leaves above
with heat and light
by war torched night
By day sweet shade
yet unconsumed
heated words
are searing
The pan sets
flakes in flight
instantly to light
a fire bright
In ash below
my tree of life
is growing
Warfare’s unspent
munitions at
my rooted feet
I spread my roots
a shield for what’s
beneath them
So men can tread
the earth
safely above these
and in my garden
food is growing
My leaves above
with heat and light
by war torched night
By day sweet shade
yet unconsumed
