Rumbles In The Jungles
Many choose to slumber as the thunder rumbles in the sky
As the system continues to blunder under America's watchful eye
Do doves cry when timber is tendered by a lumberjack
Garnering more empathy & energy than those considered black
Those who've been under attack since Jack & Jill went up the hill
Whose votes & Bible quotes won't stop them from being killed
Unable to heal & still feel like refugees on their own land
Where the sprees stay on repeat like videos on demand
Goddamn; even during a pandemic this bullshit doesn't stop
Another hashtag & bodybag for a man dropped by another cop
Those at the top that could plop a change strangely remain M.I.A.
Yet those same souls want us to go to the polls on election day
That conveys that everything they say is utterly worthless
And that skin filled with melanin appraises as worth less
Unrelenting stress, we're told, turns coal into priceless diamonds
Yet this duress impressed upon us feels like bucked & stucked hymens
As the system continues to blunder under America's watchful eye
Do doves cry when timber is tendered by a lumberjack
Garnering more empathy & energy than those considered black
Those who've been under attack since Jack & Jill went up the hill
Whose votes & Bible quotes won't stop them from being killed

This is such a restless theme that somehow seem to grip society. Just when I think this country is moving in the right direction, police brutality is at an all time low, occurrences of this nature happens and then we, as citizens, African Americans have to go back to the drawing board, and mentally regroup. I viewed that horrific six minutes of a man's life being slolwy drained from him. I wrote a piece called, "I Can't Breath", which I would post in the near future. I am glad you brought this issue to the forefront, bravo my poet, keep peaching to the masses, we are listening

I didn't watch the video because I'm tired of torturing my psyche by watching these things on constant repeat. It's the same state that Philando Castille was killed in. It's getting hard to breathe even without Covid-19 roaming around. I look forward to reading your poem when you publish it on here. Thank you for your comment, empathy and time. I'm glad that someone is listening. Just wish that someone was executing a much needed change. It is long overdue.

I agree with Stoney, raw and uncut truth. I am horrified at what happened, and can only pray that the officer is brought up on murder charges, and his fellow officers on accessory to murder charges.

That is what would occur in a fair and just country. America's track record with dealing with this systemic issue has incinerated any hope that I have that they'll provide justice. The individuals have supposedly been fired but I believe they're still getting paid. Nevertheless, losing a job, when they'll probably get hired elsewhere, can never equate to the loss of one's life. I appreciate your comment and for you taking the time to read my poem.

I cannot imagine them being paid, poetic. If they had been put on administrative leave pending investigation, yes. However, they were flat out fired.
That does not, however, absolve their behaviour. They murdered a defenseless man in cold blood. The one who had his knee on George's neck infuriated me so badly because it was an obvious abuse of power. And he seemed to be enjoying it, like there was NOTHING anyone could do to stop him. And you know what; there wasn't.
Too many people are calling for murder charges; I believe it will happen.

"Two of the officers involved have been "relieved of duty status," Arradondo said. The officers are still receiving pay, but have no law enforcement duties."

I did read that, and was horrified; however, the story was also updated wasn't it? They were placed on immediate leave before being fired?
"I support your decisions, one hundred percent," said Mayor Jacob Frey, in a statement about police Chief Medaria Arradondo's firing of the officers. "It is the right decision for our city. The right decision for our community, it is the right decision for the Minneapolis Police Department."

I seriously hope they are not receiving pay. That would be horrible.

Every human with a sense for life and justice would condemn this over and over again.
Im so saddened to see the news to read such cruelty.... My heart broke watching. I really appreciate the beautiful souls i meet from your country.
The Poem is,
Tremendously written.
Be safe good sir...

I watched the vid and it was sickening. looks like murder to me. They have one of the cops in custody being charged for murder, and rightly so I'm thinking more will follow... Hopefully more arrests. If anything, the world's eyes are on us now!

Saw no reason to torture myself watchn the video. Have come to understand that "Melanin Rich" individuals are not dying fast enuff for the "Melanin Poor" ones.
Perhaps a group of terminally ill folks who lived thru the abuses of the 50's, 60's, and 70's who wish to go down swinging will meet the Devil's henchmen where they live
Those who inflict pain and benefit from the oppression of others only respond to experiencing their own personal pain and grief

I didn't watch it and I won't watch it. Reading about it was hard enough. I believe the devil's henchmen want us to keep watching those types of videos as a form of psychological torture in an attempt to instill fear within us.

Great write!
Your poem highlights a very important dynamic; the stress that's caused this this unrest isn't restrained by rational not is it limited by moral constraint. Sometimes collectively folks just crack under pressure. As a veteran of one of the last violent labor strikes in America I can attest that civil unrest is unplanned and spontaneous. In my old age I've become very repetitive of my actions during that labor strike and wish the youth of today would appreciate my confession. However, I also remind my peers that that we cannot treat our sisters and brothers like animals then feign surprise when they don't react like humans.
"Goddamn; even during a pandemic this bullshit doesn't stop"
This line captures it all.
Keep spilling your think ink.
