“For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide
your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’” (Deut. 15:11 ESV)
foodless
feastdays
on these streets
of plenty of nothing
bind inglorious gluttons
to the gormandising
of pale pity
for scrumptiousness
the brutal kiss
of scorn
sheds its benevolence
on wretched brows
foreshadowed
by the miserly self-defense
of disingenuous saints
whose reciprocal beneficence
undresses its ugly backside
only in opulent circles
for
to him
that hath
shall even be given
what the have-nots
have not
the fat house
on the hill
belches
flatulence
in the face
of the salt
of the earth
that inhabits
the open skies
plentiness
has left them
heavenless
at the open gates
of the homeless
