Image for the poem chasing shadows

chasing shadows

Afternoon shadows chase the sun
lazy forms dance on turquoise walls

Ragged palms softly shake their heads
a tropical breeze born on glistening threads

Smells of supper simmering slow
filtering out a window screen door

August breathes her memories worn
as lacy webs weave thoughts of home

Boca Chica stretches out and sighs
beneath an azure palm raked sky
