Tea (Day 25)
There is no drink that I turn to
as I do with Tea,
as it is the one drink
that I put more faith in than any other.
I do drink coffee sometimes
and enjoy soft drinks such as coke,
squash, milk,
the necessity for life that is water;
but only Tea to me makes that life worthwhile.
It fuelled an empire
humbled countries and continents,
and is a clear sign of British-ness;
with milk of course,
and personal preference is mug rather than cup
a strong brew that is hearty
not insipid gnats pee.
Coffee is for a kick, a charge,
a need for a pick me up at a moment,
but Tea is for the marathon and for the day;
normally one per day
with any more not so much a sign of dire times
but a sign of fuel for the long run.
If there is a God
then they probably
have a teabag or two spare for guests.

I love this peek into your British mind
tea is a great comfort too I think
a constant in an ever-changing
and sometimes crumbling world
we still have tea time...
great write ❤

It may be that nothing stops anymore for tea, but there is always time for tea. A good brew does a lot of good: spiritually and physically (though the jury may still be out for the latter).

... Well obviously I was going to read a poem based on my holy water 🤗
There’s something homely and endearing about that wonder drink. It’s a daily salve. Thanks for jotting it down in a poem.

Thanks for commenting. Needed a theme for today's NaPo write and started waxing lyrical in thought about Tea; funny how the everyday things can be overlooked.

Dear V,
Amen and hallelujah! I couldn’t agree more. Tea. The sweet nector of life and sustaining civility. I’m afraid I haven’t the will power for only one cup a day when four will do however, your write comes at just the right time as I’ve just fired up the kettle for number three. Lovely write. H🌷

Personally not a fan of drinking tea all throughout the day, but won't call those who do 'heretics'! - Each to their own, and if it gets you through the day then than that hot water of life has made yet another rude gesture to the inevitability of death and proven to be life-affirming.
Or something like that in the time it takes the water to boil.

That type of talk will get you in hot water!
In some cosmic sense of order, it seems fitting that Tea is synonymous with British-ness: a somewhat formal affair that takes time and diligence rewards and is not that showy. Coffee better suits the aspirational go-getting USA, but also the need for a quick brew reflects the impetuousness.

Tea is the Libation of the Deities who do not consume alcohol !!
& in many cultures, Tea is a large part of a ceremony or 2!!
Of all the Japanese Teas produced, Genmaicha is my favorite. I often refer to this as Japanese Brown Tea --

Not a fan of the Green Tea or Herbal Teas; bit too faint for my taste. - I don't have much of a sense of smell so any aroma they might have is probably lost on me.
As a Barbarian/Heathen/ Odd-duck, I drink Lapsang with milk and I greatly enjoy the smoky flavour. Bagged tea mind you; I'm not enough of a snob to go with leaves just yet. Maybe when I'm older with more time before eternity on my hands.

There's something so warmly relatable about the creature comforts we all share. I am a rank amateur in teas but I do enjoy a soothing cup of chamomile every night.

I think regardless of expertise or type Tea drinkers are welcoming and tolerant of each other: whereas coffee seems to require a memory for complex names etc.
