Finding Soaring

The wings are imagined as a curse
or the blessing if reversed
set in shadows of the mind
as flight and self coincide

either way the soul will fly
far into the waiting sky
or down below to hell’s ceiling
above the sinners who only scream

don’t damn the choice this indicates
both nature and the human race
are at risk by their pleads
asking more than they conceive

the abused will seek to flee
far beyond their maltreatment
breaking boundaries to escape
finding soaring in this grace.
