Six feet Away
We heard about it first on the news one day
A virus from bats in China so far away
But it was them not us, no need to worry
Then it reached our shore in a hurry
We didn’t need to be six feet away
We lived life normal as we always had
But that was before things really turned bad
She was a nurse and could be exposed
I might get it or all of us I supposed
We started staying six feet away
She went to work on the front line
Nurses could be exposed at any time
We hoped this coronavirus wouldn’t last
In the meantime, we started wearing a mask
Kept our social distance six feet away
She got the coronavirus and became very ill
Knowing I could get it, I took cake of her still
It was a tough fight and hard to put into verse
She got better then somehow infected, I got worse
We tried staying six feet away
I had high risk factors and the virus grew
Soon it landed me in the hospital’s ICU
The nurses did their job and held my hand
This is not what any of us had planned
They couldn’t stay six feet away
The coronavirus symptoms came over me like a flood
But worst of all, oxygen wasn’t able to get into my blood
My line finally went flat and they rolled my bed into the hall
The nurses helped other patients while the doctor made the call
At the nurse’s station six feet away
There was silence as she was home all alone
She saw who it was then answered the phone
The news of my death made her head start throbbing
She put the phone down and began sobbing
The dog walked over to her from six feet away
There was no funeral with lots of family and friends
She sat in a car near by thinking so this is how it ends”
Now time has past and the virus has gone away
She stops by to visit me though not every day
I’m so much farther than six feet away
She kneels at my grave crying, doesn’t know what to do.
She says. “I’m sorry, I miss you so much and I still love you."
I wish I could reach out, touch her hand, tell her it’ll be okay.
One last hug and one last kiss, there’s so much I want to say.
But we are condemned to love each other from six feet away
A virus from bats in China so far away
But it was them not us, no need to worry
Then it reached our shore in a hurry
We didn’t need to be six feet away
We lived life normal as we always had
But that was before things really turned bad
