You just need to shower

Turn the water on
Hand outstretched, palm up
Water hot, steam pouring out
Take the clothes you've been wearing for two days
Set the clothes you're going to wear out
Brush your hair out, let it fall around your shoulders
Look in the mirror and see it
That body of yours
The scars, the shape of it all
Poke at your belly, and thighs
shake your head and brush your hair again
Step in under the water
and ignore the flicker of memories
Of the ghost who used to shower with you
Kisses of wet skin, washcloth on back
Brush them away and turn your face up
The water hot enough to take the sting of loneliness away
Run your fingers through your hair and sigh
Because it all is just too much sometimes
Grab the lemon scented soap, scrub your arms
Scrub your chest, belly, lower and then your legs
The smell of lemons filling the air and you bite your lip
Wishing that just getting into the shower wasn't so hard
Shampoo your hair, massaging it into you hair  
Letting it sit in your hair while you fight with  
The stupid coconut scented body wash
What can a girl say except that she likes layered smells
Repeat the cleaning motions again
Rise the shampoo out of your hair
And rubbing the conditioner in
And open your rose scented body scrub
Focus on the scars an your wrists and arms and thighs
Telling yourself they'll fade, knowing you're lying  
They'll always be there when you take your clothes off
Some days it's harder than others to take off it all
knowing that you'll see them again
Rise out the conditioner and turn your face up
Letting the water run over your face
Hiding the tears slipping out of your eyes
Turn the water off and get dressed and then go back to bed
You just showered.
