Shake Off The Leash

I'm pacing the floor
Leaving tears in my wake
Trying to understand why
I feel the way I do
Seems I'm straining at an invisible leash
Wrapped around my neck
So tight
And just walking the same old blocks
I want to go somewhere
That I've never been before
And meet those folks who've
Seen it all
Just to walk in peace with those
Who have an understanding
Of the way things are supposed
To work out for me
It's been all these years
And I haven't been able
To work it out for myself
So I'll take their help with a smile
Maybe then I can lead a life
More fulfilling and complete
And find out what I've been missing
All these endless years
In the meantime though
As I pack my bags to go
I leave my trail of tears
So I can follow them back home
When my time runs short
To tell stories of
A better way of life
To those who've stayed behind
