Old Dude
Old dude in a firebird
Rolled lite to the light
His bumper stickers read
Make Love not War and
World’s Greatest Grandpa
He drummed on the steering wheel
His turquoise rings were like tambourines
Rocking out to Cat Stevens
Leaking out like chimney smoke
Choking the noise in my car to
“It’s not time to make a change”
Green light and the old dude rolls
“Your still young, it’s not your fault”
Damn, dad’s voice streamed
Within the sound waves tied to
The old dude’s drumming turquoise rings
Horn sounds, check my rear view mirror
See more of dad than me staring back
Old dude’s taillights fade down the road
Dad fades too, gone with the Firebird
Remembering to forget takes practice
“There’s so much you have to know”
Hummed the rest the best I could remember
Just some old dude playing dad’s tune
Tonight, I’ll take the long way home
Rolled lite to the light
His bumper stickers read
Make Love not War and
World’s Greatest Grandpa
He drummed on the steering wheel
His turquoise rings were like tambourines
Rocking out to Cat Stevens
Leaking out like chimney smoke
Choking the noise in my car to
“It’s not time to make a change”
Green light and the old dude rolls
“Your still young, it’s not your fault”
Damn, dad’s voice streamed
Within the sound waves tied to
The old dude’s drumming turquoise rings
Horn sounds, check my rear view mirror
See more of dad than me staring back
